I was very happy to get to compete in Iron Cartoonist this year. Here's Cathy and I with the "Garfield being wrongfully accused of jaywalking" drawing that brought me to victory!

UPDATE: The Reading was Fun!

I had a great time at Barnes & Noble in Burlington on Friday. I read Hiding Dinosaurs, then drew some dinosaurs, and even a few of the kids came up and drew their own dinosaurs, too. If you missed this one, I will be back for another reading on December 12. And I will sit down next time!

Creative Weapons of Choice

Bob Flynn tagged me for #creativeweaponsofchoice so here are mine! My most important creative tools are sketchbooks, so I threw a few current sketchbooks in there. I have been mainly doing pen & ink drawings with watercolor for years, but lately I have been getting into colored pencils, drawing with a brush, and using brown ink (which Cathy got me for Christmas!). My little light box is in the background, but I am trying to give up using it in favor of being more direct and spontaneous.

MeCAF Recap 2014

Well, it was another fun year exhibiting with Bob Flynn at the Maine Comics Arts Festival! The event was held in a new space this year, but still featured windows, which are much appreciated!

Bob drew up some wonderfully weird monsters, along with his most famous creation: Catbug!

My favorite monster that I drew was this "Lexicon Monster" for Cara Bean!

One young kid requested a drawing of The Grim Reaper. I tried to make him look as friendly as possible. I can't help it!

I got to see lots of great people at the show. Here's Ryan Mita, showing off his copy of Bob's latest comic, reset. I hope to see you there next year!

MeCAF was a blast once again this year! I loved meeting everyone who came out to the show and drawing lots and lots of monsters!

These nice people requested "a one-armed monster who is depressed, but with a glimmer of hope."
Who can't relate to that?

And I got a request for a half-Chewbacca, half-vampire:

I also got myself a new fake ID from an enterprising young man at the show. I haven't tested it out to see if it works in Massachusettes yet.

Moira Swiatkowski snapped a good shot of us. Bob looks alert and ready for action, but I look a little out of it. I think I am actually in the midst of imagining my next monster to draw as I uncap a marker!

LEXICON 2013

I had a great time last week at the newest comic convention, LEXICON, at Lexington High School. Awesome art teacher and cartoonist Cara Bean invited a few local artists to come share our work with a cafeteria-full of high school artists. It was fun to meet the artists, see what they were making, and even do some art trades. One of the highlights was receiving this portrait of myself in exchange for a drawing of Tomb Raider (!):
